Nmat Window 5 Slots

28 feb, 20 42 278. Nmat 2018 window-2. I did a stupid decision to take the NMAT as the first batch (Jan 18) this upcoming January 2021 Online NMAT. I thought the slots were already full and were running out so I hurried and registered for the remaining date left which was January 18 instead of taking the risk of not being able to take the NMAT as early as possible.

Let’s take a look at the individual section – wise analysis of NMAT 2020 basedon the feedback given by our students

  • Language Skills (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension)
    • Overview: The Language Skills section was balanced with questions from Reading Comprehension (3 passages), Parajumbles, Grammar and Vocabulary based questions, each of the topics being equally stressed upon.
    • Complexity Level –Easy to Moderate
    • No of questions – 36
    • Section Division

  • Quantitative Skills (Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation)
    • Overview: The Quantitative Skills section of NMAT 2020 contained 3 sets of Data Interpretation amounting to 30 percent of the section. The rest of the section was Arithmetic and Modern Math (PNC and Probability) heavy. The number of questions from Algebra, Number System and Geometry was abysmal.

  • Logical Reasoning (Logical Reasoning and Critical Reasoning)
  • Overview: The logical reasoning section took students by surprise as Verbal reasoning came all guns blazing. Unlike NMAT till 2019, Verbal reasoning comprised of 50 percent of the Logical Reasoning section in NMAT 2020. However, the overall level of difficulty of the questions was easy to moderate.

Overall, the difficulty level of NMAT 2020 is moderate in terms of questions asked. However, it also depends on the ability of the candidate as NMAT 2020 is a “Computer Adaptive” exam. All these sections have been modified on many aspects.

Overview

There were no changes in the structure of NMAT 2019. It remained the same as that of last year as follows:

Section NameNumber of QuestionsTime Allotted NMAT 2018 Cut off*
Language Skills322257
Quantitative Skills486065
Logical Reasoning403860
Total120120209

* Cut off is for MBA (Core) & MBA (HR) Program at NMIMS Mumbai Campus. This year level of difficulty of Day 1 slot 1 was on par with last year Assuming that the difficulty level doesn’t vary too much across different slots, we estimate similar cutoffs this year too.

Quantitative Skills

This year, out of 48 questions in the Quantitative Skills section, 23 were on Problem on Solving, 20 on Data Interpretation and 5 on Data Sufficiency.

Majority of the questions on problem solving were of medium level of difficulty. There were five sets on Data Interpretation. Two sets (one including bar + pie chart and other having a table) were data heavy and involved significant calculations. Because of the nature of the presentation of the data, it required some effort to make sense of the data before the set could be attempted. The key to attempting this section was not to spend too much time on really calculation intensive sets and attempt the straightforward questions before more time-consuming DI sets.

There were 5 questions on Data Sufficiency, all on Numbers and mainly involved Odd and even numbers and divisibility.

The Problem Solving questions were dominated by Modern Maths and Arithmetic. There was no question on Algebra.

Following was a representative break-up of the Problem solving questions (as per student feedback):

TOPIC / SUBTOPICNO. OF QUESTIONSLEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
MODERN MATHS - 9 Questions - Easy to Difficult level
Arithmetic Progression2Medium to Difficult

Data Sufficiency - 5 Question from (All from Numbers) - Easy to Medium Level

A genuine attempt of about 33-35 questions with about 85% accuracy will be considered good. However in order to attempt 33-35 questions, selection of DI sets was very crucial.

Logical Reasoning

NMAT-2019 underwent a minor change in the structure of Logical Reasoning section. There were 24 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning (as compared to 25 over the previous years) and 16 questions on Verbal Reasoning (as compared to 15 over the previous years).

The Non-Verbal Reasoning questions consisted of set based questions as well as standalone questions. One question in Non-Verbal Reasoning also tested the concept of Venn Diagram in Mathematics.

There were 16 Verbal Reasoning questions this year.

Following is a representative break-up of Logical Reasoning section (as per student feedback):

TOTAL40 Questions

A genuine attempt of about 26-28 questions with about 85% accuracy will be considered good. However for attempting 26-28 questions, it was important to select the right sets.

Language Skills

There were no major changes in the Language Skills section from last year.

There were two RC passages about 450 to 500 words long and both the passages were easy. One passage was on ‘Air pollution and the role of automobiles’ and the other on the ‘Importance of moral education for children’. Both had 4 questions each. The RCs should have been dealt with only after attempting the other questions. The non-RC questions, on vocabulary and grammar concepts, were predictable and fairly easy.

The Grammar and Vocabulary questions included: Spotting the error in the underlined parts of a sentence, fill in the blanks (double, cloze, prepositions-based); Jumbled paragraphs; Word Analogies; Synonyms, Antonyms and meaning of phrase. The grammar and vocabulary based questions ranged from easy to medium.

Following is a representative break-up of the Language Skills section:

A genuine attempt of about 24-26 questions with about 85% accuracy will be considered good.
While attempting the RC questions, students are advised to drag the slider of the vertical scroll bar to the bottom of the scroll box, attempt the question and then click ‘Next’ to navigate to the next question. In case of the slider not touching the bottom of the scroll box, the test-taker is prompted with a pop-up notification stating ‘Read the entire passage before attempting the question’

Miscellaneous

Since there is no negative marking in NMAT, it is advisable to attempt all the questions even when you are not sure of the answer.
No major technical glitches were reported from the test centres and the administration of the exam was smooth
Students are given the option to choose the order in which they want to take the three sections of the exam. Students are advised to immediately click ‘OK’ once a section’s timing is over and load the next section on the screen as the timer does not stop till the time ‘OK’ button is clicked.
The test can be ended anytime by clicking the ‘End Review’ button in the final section.
When you go for your exam, ensure that you carry the following with you:
